Grandma's Apple Tree

I love this tree. It stands in what used to be my Grandma and Grandpa's back yard. Time stops for no one, and now my mom lives in this same house. The tree is old and hollow, and my family is going to try and save it. The apples from that Red Melba tree make the best applesauce in the world.

Grandpa would pick up windfalls and put them in bushel baskets in the garage until Mom and Grandma had the time to make applesauce. No one who could safely use a knife was exempt from cutting up apples, but none of us complained too much because we loved to eat it. We still do!

It's pretty easy to make applesauce. It's even easier to eat it. And then you get to make apple butter...
