Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY (May 28, 2010):
Outside my window...I hear rumbling in the distance, and the rain has come to stay.

I am thinking...about nothing in particular.

I am thankful for...slow weeks and even slower weekends, and the company of comfortable friends.

From the learning rooms...we have discovered Free Rice.

From the kitchen...the straight-haired girl taught her dad to make blueberry muffins, and I attempted to re-create Cafe Presto's Chicken Caesar Salad (you really do need the Kalamata olives, shaved red onion and creamy dressing). And their bread is out of this world! It's gonna take years to get close to that one!

I am wearing...shorter hair these days.

I am creating...still creating...a pink comfort quilt with remnants of a tattered keepsake at the limit of its usefulness, yet too dear to throw away.

I am going...to bed directly. Lots to do this week.

I am reading...And the Skylark Sings With Me, The Well-Trained Mind (refresher course), and the dictionary. I know; I have a tendency to be a bit nerdy.

I am hoping...you won't hold that tendency against me.

I am hearing...Baby of Mine by Allison Krauss. I love this singing this song to the curly-headed girl and she loves to hear it. She doesn't even mind that I'm constantly off-key.

Around the house...we have three temperature zones: clammy, just right, and hotter-than-blue-blazes. I refuse to put the air conditioning on before summer arrives. We can't be rushing the season.

One of my favorite things...is the start of summer; all those long (hopefully idyllic) days stretching ahead of me.

A few plans for the rest of the week: include re-learning to grill on a charcoal fire. I'm not about to let another summer go by without that necessary skill. I intend to be able to build a good charcoal fire without lighter fluid or propane gas by the end of next week.

Here is picture I am sharing...

I'm taking part in The Simple Woman's Daybook.
