Dinner is Served

Meatloaf is a bit dicey. Sometimes it turns out great, and sometimes it doesn't. Can anyone relate?

This recipe is consistent and not too full of tomato flavor. It was a family favorite when I was growing up, and now my own family loves it, with the exception of the Curly-headed girl. She claims to be a vegetarian when it suits her.

Grandma's Meat Loaf

1 1/2 lb. hamburger or ground sirloin
3/4 c. oats
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper
1/4 c. chopped onion
1 c. tomato sauce
2 t. Worchestershire sauce

Combine all ingredients thoroughly. Pack firmly into an ungreased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch loaf pan. Bake in a preheated moderate oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before slicing. Makes 8 servings.

A preheated moderate oven is 350F, by the way. I'm thinking this recipe was around long before my grandmother was serving it for Sunday dinner.
