Summer Has to Arrive Sometime!

April was almost entirely without showers and sunny to boot. Then the last week slapped us in the face and dumped rain all over the place. I can't complain too much. We needed it. But it sure is hard to be content with cold drippy weather on the heels of so much sunshine. I can't even properly wear my flip-flops.

So I decided to do something about all that nasty weather: Ignore it. When life hands you lemons, what do you do? Make lemonade, of course. But we like to add a secret ingredient.

Dad's Old-Fashioned Lemonade Recipe
2 lemons, thinly sliced
2 limes, thinly sliced
1 cup sugar

Place the lemons and limes in a half-gallon pitcher. Dump the sugar on top and stir it around until the lemon and lime slices are coated. Mash them until they are thoroughly smashed (a good job for the aspiring cooks in the family). Put the pitcher in the refrigerator for an hour and go outside to labor in the sun. After an hour, come back inside and fill the pitcher with cold water. Pour it over ice cubes and enjoy. I doubt that leftovers will be an issue, but I offer this disclaimer: take out the fruit slices. The lemonade will be bitter if you leave them in too long.
